Awaken to the ever-changing glorious pre-dawn light. Crimson, red, purple and orange colours wash the sky and Great Oyster Bay. Watery greys look equally majestic from Avalon. Look out for the white bellied sea eagle that passes every morning.
Enjoy the delightful breakfast provisions and plan your day or don’t plan your day – just let it evolve. You can simply sit and read the interesting books from the Avalon collection, swim at the secluded beach at the bottom of the path, go fishing, walking, collect shells or – head to Swansea or Freycinet to enjoy the splendour of the east coast.
As the dance of the evening sky unfolds cook yourself up a storm in Avalon’s beautiful kitchen using your own goodies. Or embark on creating a memorable meal using our ‘Wursthaus’ gourmet mini bar provisions; luscious eye fillet steak, cheeses, olives, crusty bread, pasta and sauces all ready for you to prepare.
Light the fire, pour a glass of selected Tasmanian wine and watch the moon rise over the Freycinet Peninsula or gaze at the stars. You can watch a DVD from Avalon’s library or just snuggle up on her lichen inspired orange couch. This luxury property was perfect for a quiet holiday. We had stocked up with provisions in Bruny Island, Hobart and Sorell before arriving so we virtually stayed put for our 3 nights. Firstly, the environment: the view across the bay is breathtaking and simply sufficient entertainment in itself; the pathway down to the beach is like a little nature reserve with blue wrens, possums, wallabies and lovely trees; the beach is pristine. Fishing gear was in good order (remember to bring your own bait), and the wetsuits are a thoughtful touch if you wish to linger in the sea. Secondly, the house: beautifully designed to immerse you in the environment and capture the spectacular views, everything was in perfect condition and is very comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped. The house has a modern artistic aesthetic and is really a lovely place to be, it's surprisingly warm and welcoming given the industrial type architecture. Those in our group who like to sleep in did find it a bit of a rude awakening when the rising sunshine came through the quite sheer blinds! I was happy to rise early and take advantage of morning coffee on the deck. Essentially, the property meets your expectations of a luxury retreat and you won't be disappointed. We had a wonderful few days there and totally relaxed and love it. Ann and Peta are very efficient and helpful.
With Stunning panoramic views of the ocean a warming open fire, all you could possibly need to prepare a beautiful meal and a luxurious bed. This accommodation is outstanding.
Avalon was the best possible choice we could have made for our wedding in March 2015. We decided to hold the ceremony inside and sixty guests were easily accommodated in the lounge space overlooking the water. Afterwards, everyone really enjoyed mingling outside, moving in when it got a bit colder with plenty of space for dancing and lounging. We had the night before the wedding booked at Avalon too and spent a gorgeous evening with friends enjoying the complimentary champagne and bathrobes. Every need is catered for in this house! Ann, the host, was wonderful and Peta, the owner, was very responsive to all our queries in the lead up to our stay.
What a spot - the wow factor as we walked in didn't mellow during our two night stay. This retreat is exactly that - a calm, beautiful space to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. Avalon had us, a family of five who can never usually sit still, chilled out and relaxed - board games in front of the fire, walks down to the beach, catching up on magazines. 180 degree windows, a commanding view over the ocean and the open plan lay out of this retreat gave us plenty of space to feel freedom, even while inside. The little conveniences made it extra special too - yummy brekkie, stocked up fire wood, fully decked out kitchen with ample 'equipment' for self catering, ensuites in each of the rooms, floor heating and a selection of pillows to ensure a good night's sleep.
This was the second time we stayed at Avalon Coastal Retreat and there will be more stays in our future. It is a breathtaking glass house with amazing ocean views and your own private beach. Everything is made easy and you're really left to just enjoy your stay. We highly recommend that if you're visiting East Coast TAS, Avalon is a must-stay!!
We stayed at the Avalon Coastal Retreat over New Year and although our expectations were high the retreat is overwhelmingly stunning - it basically takes your breath away. the house is perched on a cliff by the sea, and designed to make you feel part of the landscape. the views are out of this world both towards the Freycinet Peninsula and towards the pretty local beaches, the first beach being just down from the house and almost private to the property. Our host Anne checked us in, gave us local advice and had ensured that the house was stocked up with food and wine, some of it on minibar terms, but most of it actually provided, so that the local shopping can be focused on fantastic local produce. Anne also helped out during a power cut by bringing us lanterns and plenty of candles. The retreat is pristine, nicely furnished and very stylish in a comfortable way. We had a fantastic time, enjoying the Avalon Retreat the surroundings and all the games provided. We only regret that we did not stay at the Avalon Apartment in Hobart as well - but now we know for next time.
We had a wonderful time enjoying the view particularly in the evening, sitting in front of the fire which warmed the whole living area. The facilities were excellent, particularly the kitchen and the larder was so well stocked. We really liked the art work.
Just returned from a fabulous two night stay at Avalon and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived we knew that this was going to be a special experience and it did not disappoint. Our interstate guests took advantage of its proximity to the world renowned Freycinet National Park and wine tasting at local vineyards while we delighted in staying put soaking in the views and strolling along the private beach, coming together to cook up a storm in the well appointed kitchen and lounge round the open fire in the evening. It was a magical location for seeing the full moon rise over the Freycinet Peninsula and waking next morning to the glorious sunrise. It is impossible to leave without a lingering sense of serenity!
